Important Items That Every Airbnb Host Should Provide

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The best thing after an amazing listing description

Times they are a changin. Nowadays, when you visit any vacation rental one simply isn’t satisfied with a clean room, Tempur mattresses and a deluxe Nespresso device. Standards are changing which alters expectations on a continuous basis. It remains at your disposal which standard you decide to maintain. Some items, however, are non-negotiable. When you have your BnB set up make sure that you include the following items.

Safety first

You are so focused on creating an awesome experience you might forget about safety, up until that was. Because from now on you understand that the necessity to create a safe and secure environment outweighs the risks of not providing one. You also want to cover your rear end, abbreviated CYA. This is an activity done by an individual to protect himself or herself from possible subsequent criticism, legal penalties, or other repercussions, usually in a work-related or bureaucratic context. Items that must be acquired are:

  • Carbon Monoxide Detector
  • Fire Extinguisher, the number will depend upon the size of the unit.
  • Smoke Detector
  • First Aid Kit
  • Fire Escape
  • Non-Slip Bathtub Mat in each bathroom

Next comes entertainment

Your vacation rental may be located at a place where outside attractions are rampant and guests will spend most of their time on an outside adventure. Still, it is your duty to ensure that you take care of their entertainment. Smart TV’s are much cheaper than before (you know, way back when). Netflix and Amazon prime have that many subscribers for a reason. While booking or after having booked a guest may not explicitly mention it, but even for rainy days, it’s good to offer the possibility of being able to access some superb Apps. Bonus points for reviews!

Ability to communicate

As an Airbnb host, it is necessary that you take care of the communication with your guests. Most people carry smartphones with them. What you need to do is provide them with technology that will help them stay connected. You must have good Wi-Fi, preferably with a high-speed internet connection. You need to have good quality routers which are user-friendly in case of an outage. Provide them with the necessary items that will help them lead the same life they would in their own homes. Or provide them with unusual items such as iPhone 5’s. Wait, what? The following might be off limits for you or you may not consider it suitable for your type of guests. For sake of convenience, you could provide your guests with a smartphone. Spread the cost of a second-hand iPhone 5 over a year – it comes down to an investment of 1 dollar a day – yet it increases the perception of hospitality and service tremendously – besides the practicality of Google maps – templates with info which you can have stored et cetera. Possibilities are endless– up to you whether it is worth the investment.

Family friendly items

If you intend on hosting families you will need to make sure that your home is child-friendly. And elderly friendly for that matter. It is important that you are able and willing to make the necessary arrangements required by these guests. Providing the following items is a real gamechanger for parents travelling with their young ones.  They simply wouldn’t have to think about organising them or carrying them whilst on holiday. Some items that can be provided are

  • Baby bouncer
  • Playpen
  • Bottle warmers
  • Crib
  • White noise machines
  • Baby swing
  • High chair
